Just Breathe

This is our I-movie we made. It is about one of our school values, respect. On the first clip, I am chocking from gas and Aden comes with a gas mask to save me. In the second clip I experience a panic attack from a test and then Aden comes and types the answer.

Area and Perimeter DLO

We are learning to calculate the perimeter, area and volume of shapes:

Our task:

Make two different shapes, using the unifix cubes, that have a volume of:

  1.  64 cm cubed

(Insert photos of your two different shapes)

  1.  What is the perimeter of each shape? 16cm

  1.  What is the area of the bottom level of each shape? 16cm squared

What formula can we use to work out:

Perimeter: Length + length + width + width

Area: Length x width

Volume: Length x width x height

 Find Specific Information

1.What bush creatures are included in this story? The bush creatures included in the story were Ants, a Grasshopper, a Wasp, a Wētā and Huhu grubs.

2. What did the grasshopper do during the first summer of the story? The grasshopper sat back and relaxed in the sun and made music during the summer.

3. What services did the grasshopper provide the ants over winter? The grasshopper was the ants Waiter, Builder and night protector.

4. How did the huhu grubs pay the grasshopper? The huhu grubs paid the grasshopper in food.

Make Inferences

Why has the author chosen to make the ants speak in short sentences and give brief replies? So the ants don't talk for hours and so their instructions are clear.

Show Your Understanding

1. The grasshopper needed food for the next winter.

2. The ants sighed at the grasshopper because it seemed like he was going back to his old ways.

3. The grasshopper asked the huhu grubs to give food to the ants so he could pay them back for saving his life

4. It was a short story with animals with human like abilities and there was a moral to the story

Describe a character

Huhu grub.

The Huhu grub were lazy and just ate and sunbathed in the sun. But in winter they were cold and had no food.

Respect Poster

We are learning to use these design elements in our advertisement:  colours, shapes, lettering, use of space, proportion, composition, symbols and logos.

We are learning to explore our school values.

Success Criteria: We have chosen ONE of the school values and created a static advertisement to illustrate and persuade others in our school to demonstrate this school value.

It was hard finding the right characters for the poster and also fitting all the information in. You might have to zoom in or put the poster in full screen to read easily.

Magneturtle

Magneturtle

Last week I went to an Australian beach and saw a turquoise turtle with big black eyes. I thought it was cute so I pet its shell. I realised the back of its shell looked like a spider web. After a while we went back to the airport to go back home to New Zealand. When we got back home I walked my way down to the beach and saw something extraordinary! The exact same turtle from Australia! I ran up to it and studied it carefully. I used my phone camera and zoomed in on it. It had a sort of Magnetic Touch on it.

A Sea turtle uses the earth's magnetic fields to navigate their way back to the place where they were born many years earlier. It finds the magnetic field from sensing the invisible lines in the ocean leading from New Zealand to Australia. It returned back to New Zealand because it needed to lay its eggs back on the beach it was born at. Every year it returns back to lay its eggs so I was lucky catching it. It moved over to Australia to get warmer water and richer fish.

Popsicle Catapult

My Catapult

 By Zade

Last week all my class made different catapults to see whos went the furthest. We could only use 1 wooden spoon, 15 popsicle sticks and 12 rubber bands at max. We worked in partners and Finn and I worked together.

We were scrolling through google trying to find the right catapult. I found a regular catapult that you pull back the spoon and let go to make it fire. Finn thought that a standing catapult that has a lot of pull back would do a lot better but I convinced him to use the catapult design we were originally going to use.

A catapult is basically a lever that you push down one side and the other side goes flying up at Top Speed. We used one rubber band and tied it around 7 rubber bands to make them stay together and to make the height enough because we can pull the spoon back enough to fire it far. We tied the spoon to the sticks and that was our catapult.

Me and Finn came second place and during the competition, the design Finn wanted came last. We used tin foil to put in the wooden spoon because it’s not too heavy but not too light and if it hits somebody in the eye, it won't hurt. We had two turns at using our catapults for the competition. Cameron and Benny came first place and on their first try their wooden spoon broke while they used it. The competition was really fun and I enjoyed myself a lot. Hope you know how to make a rubber band by now.

Forces and Motion DLO

Last week we had a forces and motion day (Tōpana and neke). We learnt more about forces and motions. What happened was the whole school went to three out of eight different classes which all involved different activities.

This is my D.L.O on the three activities I completed and found out more about on Wednesday.
